Electrical installations deteriorate over time. Connections loosen, insulation ages and alterations get made without the whole picture in mind. Periodic inspection and testing is how you find out before it becomes a problem.
Why it matters
Employers and building owners have a legal duty to maintain electrical systems so they don't cause danger. An up-to-date Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is the clearest evidence that you're meeting that duty – and it's often asked for by insurers.
How often?
For most commercial premises, fixed wiring is typically inspected at least every five years, but some building types need more frequent checks. Your last EICR will state when the next inspection is recommended.
